From Memphis to MeMpHITz The Birth of a New Breed
By: Lola Sims
Photobucket
For many, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’, and in the case of Mickey “MeMpHITz” Wright, he wasn’t either. From the city of Memphis to a New York City based corporate suite located at 550 Madison Avenue, all in the span of six-years, life couldn’t be better for the young executive who claims he is always in a Hitz Committee mode and ready to take on the next project. From turning songs into hits, creating his own New Era hat for Memphis in 2008, and as the new face of The Deal on BET, he’s moving a lot faster than most but taking in a lot more of the scenery.

While music continues to expand and new artists continue to be introduced to the consumer, something else is happening in music and many say it’s all because of a new breed of creative and young music executives who have begun to establish themselves on the horizon. No longer are record deals being handed out as easily or as quick as in the past. Instead, something described as simply as star quality is making all of the quarterbacking plays.

“Just star quality. Just star qualities, and talent,” MeMpHITz divulges when asked what he looks for in talent, when it comes to choosing a new artist. “Talent first then star quality and you know its’ a lot of things that usually have to match different things, with different artist.”

CONNECTED TO THE STREETS

Across The Traxx L.T. MOE SubTitle: Self-Made to Self-Paid
By: Bao Pham aka CLASSIC
Photobucket

> Real producers know what time it is. To be successful in this competitive game, one must sacrifice constantly to stay relevant and stay in the studio countless hours to keep it moving, while others slack off and let the next man take his spot. “I go out every once in a while and mingle…but I’m not really the work-the-room type of dude. I’m quiet, laid back, and reserved and just like to stay in the lab and bang out [beats],” says L.T. mOE, the Cleveland, Ohio native with a convincing west-coastish twang that resonates with certainty and confidence.

The 12-year vet/producer/song writer/engineer/studio owner/video director/editor made the move to Atlanta, GA in 2002 and hasn’t looked back since, wreaking havoc from his own Studio 216 to your speakers, and producing an impressive discography that stretches from underground Hip-Hop to Mainstream R & B artists alike.

“Being a Self-Made man, especially down here in Atlanta, it’s harder for you [being by yourself] as opposed to being a part of a crew,” confirms L.T. mOE when speaking on working in the industry. “So at the end of the day, my music really HAS to speak for me.” From Chingy’s “Fly Like Me” featuring Amerie, Jean Grae’s “The Wall”, Trey Songz’ “You Got It”, and M1’s “Don’t Put Down Your Flag”, just to name a few, you could say that the man doesn’t have to say a word.

Fresh out of High School in the late 90’s, L.T. mOE began his trekking his way through the music scene, and as always for every successful individual, it was a struggle. After dealing with dream-sellers to trash-talkers and a lot of “trial-and-error,” much of his hard work and diligence paid off in 2004 with his first placement on Ludacris’ 2x platinum album Red Light District, “Spur of the Moment” featuring Kimmi and one of his production Idols.

Kids Corner- 2 Cute

More Than a Handful

By: Kim Ellis

Photobucket

At the tender age of seven while skipping around the house singing jingles, Princess Hanna & Queen Camille collectively known as 2Too Cute decided they wanted to “wow” the world with their talents. So, their family of seven came together with a plan of action to fulfill these young girls’ dreams. Everyone in the family has a role; one of their brothers help to write their music while the other brother serves as their body guard, dad is the chauffeur along with handling the business with mom who also has the task of making sure those mohawks are in tip top shape while the sister choreographs their moves. Even their two dachshunds Dapple & Skittles have a role of their own which is protecting their home.

Fast forward to two years later and they now have under their belts a championship in a $10,000 contest they won on the Maury Povich Show for his Talented Twins & Triplett’s edition in August 2008, have done voiceovers, performed for Radio Disney, modeled for Ed Hardy and Bronner Brothers in addition to rocking many stages for events like Sweet Auburn Fest and the late Tupac Shakur Birthday Tribute Concert that Mike Epps hosted and Lil Scrappy, Young Dro, Yung LA, Playaz Circle, Bun B and many more performed as well. And to think, this is only the beginning!
